Funding announced for EV and alternative fuel infrastructure
On April 6, 2017, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Mississauga-Malton and Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced $15 million in funding to support the development of 80 new plug-in electric vehicle charging stations, nine new natural gas fueling stations and three hydrogen fueling stations. The funding was issued through the Government of Canada’s Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative, aimed at supporting a transition to less carbon-intense transportation energy use.
The announcement was made at Hydrogenics’ manufacturing and technology development centre in Mississauga. Hydrogenics received $1.6 million of the funding to support the construction and operation of two new hydrogen fueling stations in the Greater Toronto Area.
